The 2017 Mayfield Mayfair was held in the High Street on Saturday 13th May from 1pm to 4pm.   As a result, Mayfield High Street was closed from 12 noon to 5pm between the junction with Fletching Street at the east end and the junction with West Street at the west end

Provisional timetable with approximate timings

1:00pm        Procession – starting at the west end, near the old bank building, and proceeding to the Maypole outside the Middle House

Followed by an enactment of Jack-in-the-Green chasing out the Frost Queen to symbolise spring replacing winter, then the crowning and parade of the May Queen and King around the Maypole

1:15pm   Maypole dancing by pupils of Mayfield and Five Ashes Primary Schools

1:40pm   Maypole dancing by pupils of Bricklehurst School

2:00pm   Maypole dancing by children from Mayfield pre-school accompanied by Mayfield school recorder group

2:10pm   Morris dancing by the Ashdown Forest Morris Men (towards the west end of the High Street, near Royal Oak Mews)

2:40pm   Maypole dancing by pupils of Skippers Hill School

3:00pm   Maypole and country dancing by pupils of Pembury School

3:20pm   Maypole dancing by pupils from Mayfield School

3:45pm   The BIG dance – creating a RECORD with 56 dancers

During intervals, the Robin Hooders performed and throughout the afternoon there were

  • Special offers, displays and items from the shops with an emphasis on local produce.  Displays at Flamingo Trends,  Four Winds,  Fine Wines of Mayfield,  Pink Cabbage and a tombola at Rosina’s plus raffle at Lambert & Foster
  • Craft stalls including paintings, decoupage, fairy gardens and children’s gifts
  • Produce stalls – jams, baking, fudge, sweets, cup cakes plus plants, succulents and cactuses
  • Charity and community stalls including Children’s Air Ambulance, Home Instead Care, Mayfield and Five Ashes newsletter, and village play
  • Fire engine and ambulance
  • Plenty of food and drink including hog roast, BBQ, vegetarian options, Pimms, strawberries, ice cream, teas and cakes
  • Silent auction
  • Chutney competition

St John Ambulance attended to provide First Aid and will also be giving a defibrillator demonstration during the afternoon.
