Mayfield Mayfair 2014

Small photo of Maypole dancing 2014 We were really lucky with the weather.  The wind may have blown down a few signs and a gazebo and made it a challenge to catch the ribbons on the maypole but we  had two or three drops of drizzle at most.

Big thanks to all the school children who turned up to dance, the teachers and other helpers who taught and organised them, everyone else who helped in so many ways – and to everyone who turned up to watch and take part in another great, traditional, Mayfield event.

This year the plan is to ensure an old-fashioned “Country Fayre” style, so we are busy planning suitable events such as skittles, smashing the crockery and apple bobbing to go alongside the traditional Maypole and country dancing and the crowning of the May Queen. We are looking for lots of entrants in the May Queen competition this year.

This is one of the wonderful annual events that makes our village special and brings everyone together and we would appreciate any support to make the day a success and to involve the whole community. If you can help, even in a small way, please contact Andrew Burnett at Burnett’s – a couple of hours help before, during or after the event or offers of old crockery would all be welcome.
