REMEMBER: now is the time to enter your teams of 8 for the tug-of-war. Leave a comment on the page if you are interested.

At the 2012 Mayfield Mayfair, there will be lots of activities being demonstrated and where you can have a go yourself.  You can try out sporting activities and get involved with other community activities.

The London 2012 Olympics, Paralympics and Cultural Olympics will demonstrate the power of sport and cultural events to motivate individuals and teams to achieve their potential, often reaching heights they had not dreamed they could, and the way that events can bring communities together.

In our own small way, we will be allowing those from Mayfield and all the thousands of visitors to the Mayfair to have a go themselves and see what they can achieve and encouraging everyone to be active to keep fit and healthy as well as finding out about the community activities which make our village and district so vibrant.

Among the sports to see and try out will be:

Mayfield Bowls Club

Mayfield Bowls Club will be using part of Court Meadow to bowl a few bowls. Although not as flat and smooth as their lovely lawns in Vale Road, it will give a chance to demonstrate the game to visitors. Why not visit them and have a go?

The Mayfield Bowls Club has been going for over 70 years. There are ‘Roll ups’, internal competitions, inter club matches 2 or 3 times a week.

It is a very friendly/sociable game with technique and strategy for all ages. The club also has a very active Social side.
Further details from Deveda Redman on 01435 872558 or come to club night on Monday evening at 5.00 to 6.00 pm in the Club House at the bottom of Vale Road.

Zumba
WHAT IS ZUMBA?
Zumba is a Latin-inspired easy to follow dance fitness class, which is fun and exhilarating.
IT’S FUN – The dance moves are dynamic, exciting and energising – you don’t realise you are exercising – that’s why it’s known as a Zumba Fitness party.
IT’S EXERCISE IN DISGUISE – You can burn anywhere between 500-1000 calories per session.
IT’S EASY TO FOLLOW – Routines are designed for everyone’s abilities and all ages – dancers, non-dancers and new exercisers are all catered for.
IT’S EFFECTIVE – Zumba is a cardio based workout to tone and sculpt your body to target areas such as your gluteus, legs, arms, core, abdominals and the most important muscle in the body – the heart..
ITS DIFFERENT – The music, the steps, the moves, the energy ………nothing compares to a Zumba fitness class!!!
Alison has dancing is in her veins – she has been teaching dance and fitness for over 28 years in the UK and overseas and naturally fell in love with Zumba. If you enjoy partying you too will love Zumba.
The rhythm of the music and my lead will carry you through a number of exhilarating routines – the aim is to give you an excellent overall body workout to burn off any unwanted calories whilst having lots of fun! Classes are not competitive or intimidating – everyone is together for the same reason to enjoy keeping fit. We work together to achieve your own personal goals – it’s great for the mind, body and soul.
